Abstract

LEADERSHIP, PLANNING AND EVALUATION PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT As a consortium cancer center, the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (Case CCC) focuses on frequent inter-institutional engagement regarding the activities, investments, priorities, and initiatives of the Center as articulated in the Strategic Plan. As Case CCC Director, Gary Schwartz provides the overall strategic direction for the Center and oversees a rigorous planning and evaluation process. All planning and evaluation efforts reflect the Center's mission: to develop a high-impact and comprehensive cancer research program in an environment that fosters scientific discovery and spans prevention, early detection, risk stratification, therapy, and cure to ultimately improve lives across our communities. The specific aims of planning and evaluation are to: 1. Maintain a Cancer Center leadership and internal and external advisory committee structure that promotes dynamic assessment, review, planning, and implementation of collaborative and transdisciplinary research across the consortium. 2. Involve the entire Center membership and its consortium institutions in periodic assessment of priorities and opportunities to advance the goals of the Center, and to develop and maintain a strategic plan in alignment with the Center mission. Schwartz, with support from Case CCC administration, prioritizes a coordinated effort in strategic planning and evaluation for the Center. The Case CCC's process of planning and evaluation begins with the Executive Committee (EC), involves the Center membership through Research Programs and Shared Resources (SRs), and includes bidirectional input from the Center's Community Advisory Board (CAB). Plans are discussed with consortium institutional leaders through the reorganized Institutional Consortium Cabinet (ICC) and the Institutional Advisory Committee (IAC), plans are then ratified by the Governance Board (GB). Bi-directional interactions are foundational and essential, as with any linked organizational structure. These iterative and interdigitated efforts, each with their own scope and focus, provide a robust process favoring strategic initiatives and dynamic investments that are timely and effective. This process encourages all interests of Case CCC to align with and impact the strategic plan.
