Abstract

SURVEY RESEARCH SHARED RESOURCE: ABSTRACT The Survey Research Shared Resource (SURSR) supports survey needs aligned with the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center’s (MCCCC’s) strategic goals, particularly Transforming Care Delivery and Transform and Decentralize Clinical Trials. SURSR’s vision is to be the principal resource for high-quality survey research services for MCCCC members, while protecting the needs of patients by minimizing overall survey burden. SURSR supports this vision through three Specific Aims: Aim 1: To provide survey services and support to MCCCC members. Aim 2: To develop novel methods for administering surveys and engaging respondents. Aim 3: To raise awareness across the Mayo Clinic enterprise regarding survey research best practices. SURSR provides consultation with a survey methodologist for all new project requests to understand the client’s survey needs and to offer advice on study design, question sources, and validated scales. A survey methodologist reviews and provides feedback on all draft surveys before they are passed to SURSR staff for formatting and data collection. Upon request, the survey methodologist reviews other study materials, such as recruitment materials and consent scripts. SURSR also supports qualitative methods, including semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and cognitive interviews. The staff have expertise in data collection, including web- based survey design (using Qualtrics and REDCap), scannable (optical mark recognition) paper survey design and scanner programming, and non-scannable paper survey design. They also offer double data entry for non- scannable paper surveys. SURSR administers survey administration through various channels, including flyers, social media, email, text, postal mail, and telephone interviews. Projects are managed from the initial consultation through data delivery, with response tracking using a customized Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Relationship Management system. The survey methodologists also deliver educational seminars, guest lectures, and a graduate course on survey research methods, all of which offer opportunities to train researchers and learners on survey best practices. One-quarter to one-third of SURSR revenue comes from MCCCC members, and SURSR has supported 107 publications by Center members in the current funding period (18 in journals with an impact factor >10). Member Utilization 2019-2023: 84 Total (32 CPCS, 17 REDI, 6 CGSM, 7 CII, 4 NTTM, 18 ACTS) Publication by Members: 107, 18 with Impact Factor >10
