Homeostatic control of bacterial growth and cell division

WE ARE PLANNING TO CARRYOUT MOLECULAR, BACTERIOLOGICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGIC STUDIES ON WATER- AND FOODBORNE PATHOGENS IN ORGANIC AND TRADITIONAL DAIRY OPERATIONS IN NEW YORK STATE TO IDENTIFY FACTORS THAT LED TO THEIR INTRODUCTION AND THE EVOLUTION OF ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANT FOODBORNE PATHOGENS AMONG THEM. THE FOCUS WILL BE ON CAMPYLOBACTER, ESCHERICHIA COLI, AND SALMONELLA SPP. AND CRYPTOSPORIDIUM SPECIES. WE WILL IDENTIFY THE FACTORS THAT PLAY ROLE IN THE INTRODUCTION TRANSMISSION OF THESE PATHOGENS AMONG THESE OPERATIONS. WE WILL DEVELOP RECOMMENDATION TO MITIGATE THEIR ASSOCIATED RISK AND PROMOTE ORGANIC FARMING. THE RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE SHARED WITH THE PRODUCERS, THEIR ASSOCIATED ORGANIZATIONS AND WITH THE EXTENSION PERSONNEL IN HOPE OF SUPPORTING THE LIVELIHOOD OF THESE OPERATIONS.
