THIS FOURTH GORDON RESEARCH CONFERENCE (GRC) ON NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SYSTEMS, SCHEDULED FOR JUNE, 2024, WILL PROVIDE AN INTERACTIVE, ENGAGING, AND CONFIDENTIAL FORUM FOR EXPERTS FROM ACADEMIA, INDUSTRY, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO DISCUSS CUTTING EDGE, UNPUBLISHED RESEARCH, AND TO DEFINE FUTURE DIRECTIONS OF THE FIELD. IN APPRECIATION OF THE MULTI-DISCIPLINARY NATURE OF THIS GROWING FIELD, A DIVERSE RANGE OF INVITED SPEAKERS AND DISCUSSION LEADERS FROM 12 COUNTRIES WILL PRESENT A COMPREHENSIVE VISION OF CRITICAL AND EMERGING NANOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH ADVANCES ACROSS THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD SCIENCE. FOCAL AREAS INCLUDE: NANOMATERIALS, NANOMATERIAL-BASED SYSTEMS ON ALL LEVELS (MOLECULAR TO GLOBAL SCALE), THEIR INTEGRATION THROUGH BIG DATA AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, SENSORS, RISK ASSESSMENT, AND COMMERCIAL TRANSLATION INTO AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD PRODUCTION SYSTEMS. THE THEME OF IMPACTFUL RESEARCH AND APPLICATIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION WILL PROVIDE COHESION AND A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE OF THE 2024 GRC. WITH GROWING AGRICULTURAL DEMANDS ON DIMINISHING ARABLE LANDS, AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT AND FOOD PRODUCTION WILL REQUIRE INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES AND A COLLECTIVE VOICE OF SCIENTISTS, ENGINEERS, AND STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS GLOBAL NEEDS. NANOTECHNOLOGY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REVOLUTIONIZE GLOBAL AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD SYSTEMS IN NUMEROUS WAYS, AND THE GRC HELPS BUILD A DIVERSE COMMUNITY COMMITTED TO ADVANCING WORK IN THE AREA OF NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SYSTEMS, LEADING TO NOVEL IDEAS AND APPROACHES TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS GRC ARE: 1) BRING TOGETHER EXPERTS, EMERGING INVESTIGATORS AND STAKEHOLDERS TO DISCUSS NANOTECHNOLOGY ADVANCES, DIRECTIONS, AND NEEDS IN FOOD AND AGRICULTURE; 2) IDENTIFY CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH AND EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES TO ADDRESS GLOBAL CHALLENGES OF FOOD SECURITY, ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY, FOOD SAFETY, AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY, AND 3) EMBOLDEN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT NANO IN FOOD & AGRICULTURE REPRESENTS A SINGLE UNIFYING CONCEPT, RATHER THAN TWO DISTINCT FIELDS.

**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** THE DEMAND FOR FOOD IS INCREASING BUT AT THE SAME TIME, CONSUMERS ARE DEMANDING MORE NUTRITIOUS FOOD THAT IS GROWN SUSTAINABLY. THESE DEMANDS ARE COMPOUNDED BY THE LACK OF LABOR AVAILABILITY TO WORK ON THE FARMS AND THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF CLIMATE ON CROPS. THEN, THE ADVANCES IN DIGITAL AGRICULTURE, ESPECIALLY SENSORS AND CONTROLS, MACHINE VISION, AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLIED TO ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION OFFER NUMEROUS POSSIBILITIES TO ADDRESS MANY OF THE CHALLENGES FACED IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION AND TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY AND EFFICIENCY OF FARMING OPERATIONS. THE PROPOSED SYMPOSIUM WILL PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXCHANGE KNOWLEDGE, IDENTIFY PROMISING TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES, IDENTIFY RESEARCH AND TRAINING GAPS, IDENTIFY INFRASTRUCTURE (E.G., COMMUNICATIONS, DATA INTEROPERABILITY) NEEDED TO REALIZE THE BENEFITS OF ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION, AND IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLABORATION. THE SYMPOSIUM WILL SERVE AS A KNOWLEDGE HUB WHERE DIFFERENT GROUPS WILL CONVERGE TO EXCHANGE EXPERTISE AND IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY AND MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL COLLABORATION. ADDITIONALLY, HAVING THE SYMPOSIUM RUNNING CONCURRENTLY WITH THE ICPA CONFERENCE MIGHT PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS OF BOTH EVENTS TO BUILD AND STRENGTH PROFESSIONALCOLLABORATION THAT ULTIMATELY WILL BENEFIT THE APPLICATIONS OF ROBOTICS AND AI TO PRECISION AGRICULTURE.
